Ok as we have a diverse community here I was wondering do any of the members feel their accent is a bonus or a curse..has it ever held you back, have you ever had someone who couldn't understand you,or do you feel proud of your native tongue...Personally I adore my Scots accent, but admittedly,I would gladly swap it for an East Coast 1 it's wonderful, the intonation is so musical and expressive, where as, the west coast accent tends to be rather 1 dimensional..

I don't generally mind the aussie accent much, though it sounds so harsh when compared to some others, scottish, irish and welsh, to pick examples of the isles. As to reactions, everyone tends to like the Aussies, except the keewees, or at least not have anything particularly against us, but we do have some of the strangest slang you'll ever find in the english language.

Personally, I love guys with accents, so bring Em on. *smile* As for me, I don't have that Long Island accent where you don't say r's and say dawwg and chawwwwcolate. (it really doesn't work with Jaws) People actually think I'm from Maryland.

hmm, I think my english accent still is more like french, but thats quite weird as for me being hispanic.... and also one of my hispanic friends says I still have some of the spanish accent left when I talk, others say its more like french, once a hispanic woman said I talked just like an american! so I don't even know what kind of accent do I have in english. In the other hand, spanish accent is from my own city so thats quite enough for me...

it's just so baffling how we aren't capable of detecting an "accent" within our own place but then we can when we hear others yet they can't. I mean it's just kinda crazy! I just don't understand why American's always say to me "I love your accent" cos it's just me! Lol I mean I know it's stating the obvious. and i find it kinda amusing when Americans try to immitate the australian accent, it sounds as though it's British half the time Lol :)

I think american's are just deprived of a decent culture and a sense of who they really are, after all, they are all incomers who seem to have done their best to erradicate any sign of their former identity...Also I think they just see a distintive accent as cute or quaint it makes them feel as if they are getting in touch with a really cool civilisation man..
